Foundation and Fruits

The new testament is full of stories of new christian converts and how they couldn’t hold back from telling the world about Jesus. Even the healed leper after directed by Jesus to tell no-one except the priests, announced it to everyone he saw. The news was spread very quickly about Jesus by those he healed, but was it always the right news? Jesus asked his disciples who people said he was. They answered; some say a profit, others say John the Baptist, and some say Elijah. Only those closest to Jesus knew who he really was.

Pastor Zedick spoke last week about our foundation in Christ. And this week he continued with fruits of the spirit and how that foundation is necessary for creating good works. None of us can be good on our own – we need God for that, which is why spending time in prayer is so important. I understand God’s path for me when I pray everyday. I hear his guidance, and I feel his peace. If I don’t pray, I don’t hear him, I make poor judgments, I struggle with my emotions and reactions. I start to act less like a Christian, and more like the person I was before I knew God.

Fortunately for me, God is forgiving and helps me get back on track. I wasn’t perfect before becoming a Christian and I’m still not perfect after. Yet where ever I stand, if I stop to listen, God will speak, heal, direct, influence, and inspire. Listen to the full sermon here.
