Worried about how your life will change if you start following God?

People don’t like change. It’s scary and unknown. Most of us like to stay in our comfort zones, where we have a sense of familiarity and know what to expect. Some of us are so opposed to change, that even if it’s change for the better, we still resist. I used to work for a company that had a medication solution that made it easy to keep track of a multiple medication regimen, and eliminate medication errors. It seemed like it would be a slam dunk for assisted living facilities, but because it was not familiar, people were afraid to use it.

The sermon this week was titled upside-down christianity. Society values financial success and social stature, where christianity values humility and meekness. Society tells us to avoid discomfort, where Jesus called those suffering blessed. To an outsider, I imagine that the values of christianity can seem foreign. I can see how someone could be reluctant to follow God.

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I was last on the bandwagon to use an iPhone.  I considered it a waste of money. A phone is to call people with. Why would you need it for anything else? Then I got an iPhone, and it changed my world. I don’t get lost anymore because of the GPS, I have information at my fingertips whenever I need it. Now I don’t know what I would do without one. That’s what it’s like to be a Christian. Once you experience peace and love from God, you’ll wonder how you ever survived without it.  You can talk to any Christian, and they’ll tell you the same thing. Yes, it’s a life change, and yes, it will be disruptive to your routine, but you will not regret it. Hear the recorded sermon.
